Natural hair feels like an unexplored island
I started my natural hair journey back in 2013. I had no idea what it would turn out to be, but I was just so sick of relaxers!! I used relaxers my whole life and my hair was just becoming shorter and unhealthier. Like many girls I used to spend hours in the salon and getting my hair back to its natural state was a frightening process and I completely stepped out of my comfort zone. When I started the journey I had no idea what to use, what to do or even apply on my hair. I kind of just went with the flow and took it a day at a time. Although I grew to learn that conditioner and water was my best friend, I spent hours in the shower (well I still do). It was also hard to find products, as at that time people were not aware of the natural hair process. I would either get comments from OMG your hair is beautiful or don’t you want to relax your hair again? People had no idea that Black or mixed girls could have natural, curly hair. My Discovery of natural hair products started two years after the transitioning process.
My favourite products to use are Mega growth (conditioners, leave in and shampoo), Cantu (coconut curling cream, argon oil leave in conditioner), Design essentials (almond & avocado Daily moisturizing lotion) and of course coconut oil. As time has gone by I have figured out what products have worked for my hair the best. Although because of the lack of availability of products where I am from (Tanzania) and South Africa its difficult to find the best products. I buy what they have and what I can afford and try it.
Since then I am now currently 5 years natural and I love my hair! I have also started a YouTube channel to enlighten more people about going natural. Over the years I have learnt so much about my hair. These years of being natural have made me feel more confident and beautiful. Your hair is worthy, take care of it.
